Aston Martin DB12 S: more than an evolution, a revolution
With the new Aston Martin With the DB12 S, the British marque has taken a new step into the world of high-performance grand touring. More powerful, lighter and sharper than ever, this new version of the DB12 clearly aims to become the benchmark for modern GT cars.
Beneath its elegant bodywork lies a 700bhp AMG twin-turbo V8, combined with a chassis that has been extensively reworked to deliver greater precision and agility. A promising recipe that we were able to discover on the superb roads of the south of France.
The question is simple: does the Aston Martin DB12 S deserve the title of ultimate GT?
Design as attractive as ever
It's hard to remain indifferent to the silhouette of the Aston Martin DB12 S. True to the brand's DNA, it retains perfect proportions and a timeless style that has stood the test of time.
The styling changes remain discreet but reinforce the car's sporty character. The more aggressive front end, optimised aerodynamic elements and new wheels all help to improve performance while preserving Aston Martin's typical elegance.
A real work of art on wheels.
A 700-hp AMG V8 at the top of its game
The heart of this DB12 S is undoubtedly its impressive 3,984 cm³ twin-turbo V8 developed in collaboration with AMG.
With 700 bhp and 800 Nm of torque available between 2,750 and 6,000 rpm, performance is nothing short of spectacular:
- 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds
- Maximum speed of 325 km/h
- 8-speed automatic gearbox
- Electronically-controlled differential (E-Diff)
But beyond the figures, it is above all the way in which this engine delivers its power that impresses. The engine responds instantly, pushes with vigour at all engine speeds, and is accompanied by a husky, addictive sound that will delight enthusiasts of combustion engines.
A transformed chassis
One of the main changes in this S version concerns its dynamic behaviour.
Aston Martin has extensively revised the suspension settings, steering and electronic aids to deliver an even more engaging driving experience.
The result is remarkable. Despite its 700bhp, the DB12 S remains incredibly easy to drive. The steering is exceptionally precise, while the front end inspires instant confidence.
Even more impressive, the car retains a level of comfort worthy of the best GT cars on the market. A rare balance between sportiness and refinement.
On the winding roads of southern France, the British car demonstrated the full extent of its talent: stable at high speeds, agile in corners and always perfectly controlled.
Build quality worthy of Aston Martin's prestige
The interior perfectly reflects the exclusive positioning of the DB12 S.
The materials are sumptuous, the assembly flawless, and the overall ambience exudes British craftsmanship and luxury. Top-of-the-range leathers, metallic finishes and modern technologies coexist with elegance.
Not everything is perfect, however. The digital instrumentation still lacks a little of the sophistication of the best German products, while the rear seats remain largely symbolic.
But these few shortcomings do not detract from the overall onboard experience.
