Since its re-styling in 2022, the Volkswagen Polo has enjoyed a remarkable resurgence of interest, to the point of once again becoming Volkswagen's best-selling car in 2023. However, in a car market undergoing a major shift towards electrification, the Polo continues to prove its relevance as a versatile and convincing city car. So what is becoming of this icon of the German brand in today's automotive landscape?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A beneficial restyling<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The restyling of the Volkswagen Polo in 2022 was a crucial turning point. Modernised with more dynamic lines and a refined interior, it has won over a wide audience. The facelift has not only refreshed the car's looks, but also enhanced its comfort and technology. Inside, the Polo offers a modern ambience with quality materials and well thought-out ergonomics. The rear bench seat is particularly welcoming, offering generous space for a car in this segment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Measuring 4.05 metres in length, the Polo is a benchmark city car. Its compact size allows it to slip easily into urban environments, while offering surprisingly good interior space. The 80 bhp 1.0 MPI is the entry-level engine, perfect for urban use. The 95 and 110 bhp 1.0 TSI variants offer a good compromise between performance and fuel consumption. For lovers of sportiness, the GTI version, with its 207 bhp, remains an attractive option, although its future is uncertain in an increasingly electrified environment.<\/p>\n\n\n

A response to the challenges of electrification<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Faced with the growing popularity of electrification, Volkswagen has opted for a dual strategy. On the one hand, the brand is keeping its historic models such as the Polo, while on the other, it is developing a new electric range with the ID series. Despite the challenges, the Polo continues to sell well, especially in France, where it is often in the top 20 in sales. Between January and July 2023, it found some 16,000 buyers, including around 9,000 private individuals, putting it ahead of the T-Roc, a feat it had not achieved for some time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why choose the Polo?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Choosing a Polo means opting for a safe bet. Rarely disappointing, it combines good looks, reassuring roadholding and decent suspension comfort. It's particularly well-suited to those looking for an alternative to French best-sellers like the Clio or 208, or to the inevitable Dacia Sandero. The Polo also offers a range of modern equipment and a pleasant drive, especially in town. With its dual-clutch automatic gearbox, it offers optimum driving smoothness. What's more, its value for money remains competitive, even in the face of fierce competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
