Choose the motorising your car in Luxembourg has become more complex than ever. Between electric, hybrid, plug-in hybrid (PHEV), petrol and diesel cars, There are an increasing number of options for very different uses.
To help you make the right choice, we have analysed a study published by the Automobile Club du Luxembourg (ACL) in January this year. It compares entry-level models from the 15 best-selling car brands in Luxembourg in 2024*all engines combined.
For each category, only the base price of the entry-level model (excluding options and government grants) has been selected.

1. Car electric in Luxembourg: a range of services now available
First lesson from the study: all the brands in the top 15 now offer at least one 100 % electric model. This confirms the growing maturity of the electric car in Luxembourg.
Prices vary greatly depending on the segment:
- less than €15,000 for an electric city car
- more than €80,000 for a Electric SUV premium
Average range of electric cars
The average range of entry-level models reaches approximately 408 km WLTP, with :
- 225 km minimum
- 644 km maximum
The average price/range ratio is around 91 €/km, But some models offer much better value for money.
💡 Good to know
In Luxembourg, some electric cars remain eligible for the €6,000 government bonus. This aid can, for example, reduce the price of a Renault 5 electric under €20,000 depending on the configuration.

2. Hybrid non-rechargeable (HEV): a transition to electric vehicles
The HEV hybrid car combines a combustion engine and an electric motor that recharges automatically during braking and deceleration.
This technology is particularly suitable for :
- to the city driving
- at suburban journeys
- drivers who do not wish to recharge their vehicle
In this comparison, only six brands offer an entry-level HEV model.

In the study, 13 out of 15 brands offer a PHEV model.
Only Tesla and Dacia are not selling plug-in hybrids.
